How Commercial Electricity Meter Installation Works
The process is straightforward, as we handle everything for you. We will begin by gathering some basic information about your business so that a member of our expert connection team can contact you to discuss your requirements.
Our team will provide advice on the right type of meter for your business and explain the installation process. In most cases, we can complete the installation within 2 weeks, although this may depend on whether any site work is necessary.
Are You Ready For A New Commercial Electricity Meter?
During your initial conversation with our expert team, we will need to determine your MPAN status. This tells us the current status of your electricity meter, which will fall into one of the following categories:
- Live: Your current meter is fully operational and ready to use. You can find a new deal.
- Disconnected: Your meter is currently disconnected. You’ll need to contact your Network Operator to install a new cable before we can assign a new MPAN number.
- New: Your MPAN is created, but you may be waiting on service cable installation. You may also require your Profile Class and Meter Time-Switch Code.
- De-Energised: The fuse has been removed from your meter. You’ll need to contact the previous supplier or landlord to restore service.
Types of Commercial Electricity Meters
- Standard Single-Rate Meter: Manual-read meter, common in older installations. Requires regular readings and may result in estimated bills.
- Commercial Smart Meter: Automatically sends readings to your supplier, improving billing accuracy and eliminating estimates.
- Multi-Rate Meter: Offers different rates for peak and off-peak hours. Ideal for businesses like restaurants or hotels that operate during evenings or nights.
- Half-Hourly Meter: Required for businesses using 100kWh+ maximum demand. From May 2027, all businesses must switch to half-hourly meters (Ofgem Market-Wide Half Hourly Settlement).
